Bu Sin spoke with a sharp, loud, and defiant tone.
"There is no enmity between you and me, yet you claim that my elder brother Bu Song is your great enemy. Very well, as his younger brother, I am prepared to accept any punishment. It is a pity my skill is too low, otherwise, I would certainly represent my brother in delivering a beating to you, you base human."
"Ha-ha, death is right before your eyes, and yet you still posture."
Suma Boan snorted, and with a single motion of reaching into his pocket, he produced six arrows.
"Soon you will be dead."
"Who fears death? A brave man never flinches when facing death, provided he dies for righteousness. However, tell me why my brother made an enemy of a person like you, so that I may know what I am dying for."
"Bu Song is a great scoundrel. He was helped by Father; his examination was given good marks so he could pass, and then, attracted by his intelligence, Father gave him a good position as a personal assistant. Who would have thought that your brother, that base human, did not know his place as a servant, daring to fool around with my younger sister. I tied him up just as you are now, and he suffered a hundred lashes, but it seems his body, which was already almost a corpse, was carried away by demons, or perhaps eaten completely by them. Ha-ha-ha, and now you, his younger brother, have come to continue his punishment. My heart was not satisfied then, but now I will finally be satisfied. The humiliation inflicted upon my sister will be repaid in full... hemmm... if only that woman hadn't vanished..."
"Where is my younger sister, Sian Eng? Suma-kongcu, we are both men; if you wish revenge, go ahead, I will accept it with open eyes. However, release my sister. She is a woman; she is not responsible for my brother's actions."
"Ha-ha-ha, I will ruin your sister, and then hand her over to the guards. This humiliation must be paid in full, with interest."
Bu Sin’s face turned pale, but he refused to open his mouth. He knew it was useless to plead with a person like this, as it would only lead to heartbreaking humiliation. Whatever Sian Eng might experience, the worst would surely be death, and he believed that Sian Eng would certainly use every opportunity to escape or commit suicide rather than be touched by those filthy hands.
"Coward, who fears your threats? If you want to kill me, kill me quickly!"
He roared. Suma Boan’s left hand moved, and an arrow shot forth, embedding itself in Bu Sin’s left thigh. It felt painful and stinging, yet Bu Sin continued to stare with angry eyes; this mighty youth did not even blink.
"Look, all these arrows will hit their target without killing the victim. And be careful, he must be left to suffer until he dies from blood loss. Everyone must take turns guarding him tonight. I do not want to lose him like I did over a decade ago. Tomorrow morning, I want to see his corpse still hanging here."
"Understood, Kongcu, we, your servants, will guard him; please do not worry, Kongcu."
The guards answered in unison while bowing respectfully. With a wicked smile and fiery eyes, Suma Boan then consecutively released arrows with both hands. The arrows shot out swiftly and accurately embedded themselves in Bu Sin’s right thigh, both arms, and both shoulders. One could imagine the severity of Bu Sin’s suffering.
He managed to endure the pain in his limbs and shoulders by biting his lip; not a single complaint escaped his mouth. However, this humiliation truly wounded his heart deeply; he was almost unable to restrain himself from cursing and screaming. If he had simply been killed, it would not have mattered. But to be used as an archery target and left hanging there as a spectacle was truly heartbreaking. Suma Boan laughed mockingly, then spat on Bu Sin’s face before leaving the spot. Bu Sin merely turned his face away, but could not prevent his left cheek from being struck by the spittle. He felt his cheek burn and sting, forcing him to silently acknowledge the prowess of this prince’s son, who possessed extremely strong lwee-kang. Yet, the pain in his heart was far greater.
"Guard him well. Be careful not to let anyone steal this future corpse,"
Suma Boan instructed his subordinates. They bowed again with fawning attitudes, declaring their capability. After the kongcu left, the twelve guards sat surrounding the cross-beam where Bu Sin’s body hung. They chatted among themselves, confident that their guard was extremely strong. Their swords and sabers lay on the ground, close to hand, ready to be used at any moment.
Bu Sin felt pain throughout his entire body. The parts pierced by the arrows felt hot and cramped. However, he quickly forgot this pain, ignoring the guards’ conversation. His mind was busy thinking about his elder brother. He now understood why his brother had vanished from the capital city, unable to be found by his father. Apparently, his brother had been appointed as an assistant by Prince Suma, then his brother seemed to have engaged in a love affair with the prince’s daughter, was caught, arrested, and tortured just as he was now. But his brother vanished during the night. Where to? Was he truly dead? Ah, eaten by demons? It was also impossible for demons to help him. Who would want to help his brother? Just like himself now, who would come to his aid?
Suddenly, his eyes widened in shock. He tried to follow the flashing light with his eyes, but his vision remained dazzled, and he could not see what was flashing. All of a sudden, the guards who had been sitting and chatting were sprawled haphazardly, no longer moving—whether dead or still alive, he did not know. And just like magic, a shadow flashed near him, and in a second, the ropes binding his hands and feet were released, and then the six arrows were pulled out. Blood gushed forth, and Bu Sin remembered nothing more. He fainted and did not know what had happened to him.
